About Neurofeedback at Berry Wellness Group
What is Neurofeedback?
Neurofeedback, also called brain training, is a safe and natural way to help your brain operate at its best. It works by tracking and adjusting brainwave patterns to improve mental health, boost thinking skills, and support lasting changes in behavior. Research shows that the brain can adapt and learn healthier patterns through consistent practice.
We use a whole brain training approach, meaning we are not just targeting one area or symptom. Instead, we work with your brain as a complete, interconnected system. This allows us to help with a wide variety of goals, including reducing stress, improving focus, and easing symptoms of ADHD, depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
How It Works
During a neurofeedback session, gentle sensors are placed on your scalp or forehead to measure your brain’s activity. Your brain’s electrical patterns — called brainwaves — are linked to how you feel and function in the moment. For example, some patterns are linked to deep relaxation, others to focused attention, and others to high-alert “fight or flight” states.
While you watch a movie, listen to audio, or play a game, our system provides instant feedback. When your brain moves toward the desired state — whether calmer, more focused, or more alert — you receive positive feedback, such as a brighter screen, clearer sound, or smoother gameplay. Over time, your brain learns to maintain these healthier patterns naturally.
Because the process is gentle and non-invasive, results build gradually. This is why consistency is so important: just like building strength in sports or mastering a musical instrument, regular training is the key to lasting change.
Commitments Required
Duration and Frequency
Our Whole Brain Training program, which may include both HEG and QEEG-based training, requires a commitment of 30–40 sessions, typically held 2–3 times per week. Many clients begin to notice benefits within 10 sessions, but it takes 30–40 sessions for the brain’s new patterns to become fully established. Sessions last about 60 minutes, including setup and review time.
Restrictions on Activities
We recommend avoiding video games during your training program, as they can interfere with the progress your brain is making.
Medication Management
If you are taking medication, we encourage you to coordinate with your healthcare provider. Some clients choose to explore neurofeedback before starting new medications, or work with their provider to adjust medication while in training.
What Sets Berry Wellness Group Apart
We are the only local provider offering Whole Brain Training with the latest, state-of-the-art technology. Our system can create individualized training plans that target multiple brain patterns per session, training up to 23 sites in one session. This comprehensive approach provides variety in each visit and the ability to address several goals at once. Clients often find the sessions engaging and look forward to them.
Getting Started
Evaluation
We begin with a comprehensive assessment. Depending on your goals, a QEEG brain map may be used to give us an overview of your brainwave activity and how it may be impacting your performance, mood, and daily life. This first session takes about 60–90 minutes.
Treatment Plan
Based on your assessment, we design a custom neurofeedback protocol tailored to your needs and goals. This plan serves as your roadmap for training.
Brain Training
Once training begins, your progress will be unique to you. Many people notice changes within the first 10 sessions, while others experience gradual shifts over several weeks. Consistency is essential — skipping sessions can slow your progress and make it harder to lock in the benefits.
What to Expect in a Session
Before Your Session
Eat a small, nutrient-dense meal if your session is within an hour
Limit caffeine and sugar intake before training
Wear comfortable clothing and bring a sweater or jacket if you get cold easily
Remove head or neck jewelry, headbands, or ponytails (storage is provided)
Minimize makeup on the forehead and avoid heavy hair products (you can freshen up after your session)
During the Session
A soft cap will be placed on your head. Small sensors inside the cap are connected using a gentle saltwater solution to ensure good contact. The sensors only observe brain activity — they do not send anything into your brain or cause any sensations.
After the Session
Each session lasts about 60 minutes total — roughly 50 minutes of training plus time for setup, cleanup, and progress review. Most people start noticing changes within a few sessions. In some cases, noticeable improvements take longer, especially when addressing more complex goals. Occasionally, mild or temporary symptom changes can happen early in the process; open communication with your technician ensures we can adjust your training as needed.
Bottom Line
Neurofeedback is a safe, natural, and effective way to help your brain function at its best. With consistent training, your brain can learn to operate in patterns that support focus, calm, better sleep, and overall mental wellness — changes that can last well beyond your sessions.
