Information about Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a safe and natural way to track and change brain wave patterns to enhance mental health, boost thinking skills, and address negative behaviors. Various mental disorders are related to unhealthy brain patterns. Studies show that the brain can adjust and learn new, better patterns through practice. It’s basically a workout for your brain. Neurofeedback works by using sensors on your scalp or forehead to monitor brain activity and give immediate feedback through sounds, visuals, or games.
When your brain is calm or focused, you get positive feedback, like a nice sound or a moving bar on a screen. If your brain activity changes, you get a signal to help you refocus or relax.
With practice, your brain learns to create helpful patterns. This training improves your brain's efficiency and effectiveness, helping you manage stress, increase focus, and reduce symptoms of ADHD, depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
Commitments Required:
Duration and Frequency:
The Whole Brain Training program, which includes both the HEG and QEEG training, requires a commitment of 20-40 sessions, held 2-3 times per week. Adhering to this schedule is imperative for seeing results. Sessions last approximately 60 minutes.
Restrictions on Activities:
Avoiding video games is crucial as it may hinder the progress of the training.
Medication Management:
There should be a willingness to work with your healthcare provider to either wean off medications or to consider initiating neurofeedback before starting new medications.

Getting Started
EVALUATION: A comprehensive assessment marks the beginning of neurofeedback. Depending on your goals, a QEEG will provide an overview of how your brainwave patterns may be impacting your performance and behavior. This initial assessment lasts between 60-90 minutes.
CREATE TREATMENT PLAN: The assessment informs the development of neurofeedback training protocols. These protocols, tailored to each client's unique goals, are designed to retrain brainwave patterns towards optimal performance.
BRAIN TRAINING: Training begins once treatment goals are identified. Progress is unique to each individual and their desired functioning. Many clients undergo 20-40 sessions to achieve lasting change.
What to Expect
Preparing for your Neurofeedback Session:
Eat a small nutrient dense meal if within an hour of a session, and limit caffeine and sugar intake
Wear comfortable clothing-bring a jacket/sweater if you get cold easily
Be prepared to remove any jewelry on the head or neck and headbands/ponytails-there will be a place to put these items in office
If possible wear minimal make-up,at least on the forehead, and have minimal hair product in your hair-there is a bathroom available to you after the session to do anything you need before leaving
Where are the electrodes placed?
A soft cap will be placed over your entire head region, except for the face. Electrodes that observe the brain patterns are then placed in the cap and will be placed on the scalp using salt water to ensure connectivity. The electrodes function as an observer of brain activity and do not provide any type of physical sensations.
If some of the saltwater gets on the facial region, there will be baby wipes provided to wipe it off.
Schedule and Length of Treatment:
Sessions are approximately 60 minutes in length; with approximately 50 minutes for the Neurofeedback training and 10 minutes for set-up, clean up and progress reports. Sessions are scheduled a minimum of two times per week. The length of training sessions needed is 20-40 sessions, with 20 sessions being average. Most individuals will begin to notice changes after just a few sessions, but in some challenging cases, major benefits will not be noted until after several weeks. There is a possibility in the beginning stages of training that some regressive symptoms will appear. Honest and transparent communication with the neurofeedback technician is imperative about any undesirable, and out of the norm, effects within the 24 hours following a training session.
